What the record shows

Block, Airbnb, Monzo, Dropbox and Cloudflare report near-universal AI use among engineers

Block says 100% of its engineers regularly use AI in their work. An Airbnb product lead said 97% of active engineers use agentic AI weekly and 90% daily. Monzo says nearly all its engineers use at least one coding agent regularly, and Dropbox says AI usage among its engineering teams passed 90% this year. Cloudflare, which sells AI infrastructure, says 93% of its R&D organization used AI coding tools in the last 30 days.

From Block, Christopher Sanson (Airbnb), Monzo, Dropbox and Cloudflare.

Notion, Stripe and Uber describe large numbers of internal agents and tools

Notion, which sells Custom Agents, says that after a few months of using them internally it now has more agents than employees. A Stripe engineering manager said over 4,000 workflow-specific agents were built on its internal system. An Uber principal engineer said its MCP Gateway hosts over 800 MCP servers and over 5,000 tools for building AI agents inside Uber. (MCP is a standard way to connect AI agents to tools and data.)

From Notion, Sharadh Krishnamurthy (Stripe) and Alok Srivastava (Uber).

Amazon, Shopify, Stripe and Atlassian describe work done in less time with AI

Amazon, which sells AI services, said five people using agentic coding tools rebuilt in 65 days something that would normally have taken 40 or 50 people about a year. A Shopify VP said AI helped a team go from proof of concept to a rebuilt native app in the app stores in 12 weeks. A Stripe engineer said one setup took roughly 20 days of engineering effort without reusable prompts and 4 days with them. Atlassian says AI-native processes cut its issue cycle time from 11.5 days to 6.7 days.

From Amazon, Max Da Silva (Shopify), David Dunne (Stripe) and Atlassian.

Ramp and Coinbase describe the cost of AI use

Ramp's co-CEO said the company burned $1.5 million in tokens in one week in May. Coinbase's CEO said 91% of its employees were never hitting their usage caps, so instead of lowering caps it is moving to cheaper defaults.

From Eric Glyman (Ramp) and Brian Armstrong (Coinbase).

These summaries are this site's, not quotations. Each was checked by a second reader, who confirmed it says no more than the passages it cites. The organizations' own words follow.

Our associates are generating more than 400,000 prompts a day, and as of last week, we had over 300 AI use cases approved, all of which have good economics, of which 114 are live generative AI use cases.

normally that would have taken 40 or 50 people about a year to do. And we took five really smart people, AI forward thinking people building on agentic coding tools. And those five people rebuilt it in 65 days.

Normally, this sort of activity might take a team of 40 people about a year to carefully build. Instead, the Bedrock team spun up a separable group of six very skilled engineers who were excited about starting over and building on our agentic coding service (Kiro)

The software factory starts with signals from the outside world: bug reports, internal conversations, customer feedback, business requirements. These signals get triaged and turned into planned changes. These changes are built, tested, reviewed, secured, shipped, and monitored. Monitoring that deployed software generates more signals. The entire system is a continuous feedback loop.

For a long time, we had a 'capability overhang': the models were capable but the products didn't fully bring that out. Now, we're seeing an awareness gap. Some people have figured out they can use Codex to monitor Slack, update Airtable, or create onboarding materials. But many others still use it for one task and then discover more uses from teammates via word-of-mouth.
